Cotton
It is a plant species whose homeland is India. It is an annual plant by the duration of its growth. It is planted in the spring and harvested by hand or by machines from August to October.
In the textile industry, cotton is not used with its seed. The fibres are separated from the core by a ginning machine. All kinds of cotton grown in Turkey are medium fibre kinds of cotton and many varieties are used.
Areas of cotton is produced intensively in Turkey are; the Aegean, Cukurova, Southeastern Anatolia Regions and Antalya. It is produced in the Southeastern Anatolia Region and as a city, especially most in Sanlıurfa. In the Mediterranean region, it is produced around Mersin, Kahramanmaras and Hatay, especially in Adana.
It also has wide usage areas for medical and industrial purposes.
