The ceremony, held at the Özova Group, began with the raising of the Senegalese flag and the singing of the Senegalese National Anthem. Following this, the Turkish flag was raised and the Turkish National Anthem was sung.
Senegal Regional Honorary Consul Mevlüt Emre İçcan began his speech by thanking the attendees and saying: He reminded the Republic of Senegal that they have signed mutual political and commercial agreements on numerous issues, and expressed his belief that they will further advance developing markets as friendly countries, and that they will further develop them by opening a consular office in Hatay.
İÇCAN summarized his remarks: “Our consulate will build an economic and cultural bridge between Senegal and Turkey. In this context, I will strive to represent both Senegal and our country in the best possible way.” Senegal’s Ambassador to Turkey, Mustafa Embakke, expressed his gratitude for the interest and hospitality shown, noting that it was a great honor for them to open an honorary consulate in Hatay for a country like Senegal. He said, “It is a great honor for my country to be represented in Hatay, the agricultural city of Turkey, a melting pot of Muslim, Christian, and Jewish civilizations, by someone like Mevlüt Emre İçcan, known for his sense of responsibility and dynamism. This appointment is a sign of trust placed in İçcan by the Senegalese authorities.” He continued, “On behalf of the Republic of Senegal, I hereby officially announce the appointment of Mevlüt Emre İçcan as Honorary Consul of Senegal. I thank you for your interest.” Hatay Deputy Governor Orhan Mardinli, who attended the ceremony, expressed his best wishes for the Honorary Consulate of Senegal to Kırıkhan, Hatay, and our country. He continued:
“I congratulate both Mevlüt Emre İççan and his father on assuming this valuable role in Hatay and Kırıkhan, which are part of our country, to foster good relations and fraternal feelings with other countries, as well as economic, social, cultural, commercial, and touristic ties. I wish them success in their respective roles. As you know, following our President’s mobilization to open embassies, particularly in African countries, numerous embassies and Turkish embassies have been opened in Africa. We see the benefits of this, particularly in the implementation of such measures in economic and cultural relations.
We have full confidence that our Honorary Consul Hatay will fulfill his assigned duties diligently, as the Ambassador has stated, in terms of the dynamics of Hatay’s existing economic strengths and other investments, including significant investments in Senegal and increasing economic and commercial relations with the country. With these feelings and thoughts, I wish Mevlüt Emre İçcan success on his appointment as the Honorary Regional Consul of Senegal.”
